PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL METHODS OF EVALUATION FOODS

Magnetic Stirrer to Top

General:

Experimental control is possible by use of the same size magnet, and same speed for each test. Also, the heat can be the same.

Procedure:

1. Before making electrical connections, be sure that all switches are in the OFF position.
2. The staring point may vary depending upon line voltage, type of food, thickness of holding vessel, etc. Some of the sitrrers may start at 0, some at 3, etc.
3. The hot plate is controlled by the switch on the right side of the unit. The knob adjusts the thermostat for desired temperature.

To increase heat, turn knob counterclockwise.

4. Pilot light indicates when the heat is ON; that is, when the thermostat is allowing the heat to be on, the ipilot is ON and when the thermostat turns the heat to off, the pilot light is OFF.
5. To use the magnetic stirrer, a magnet must be placed in the beaker.
