Directions:
Warm-Up
1.Plug cord on transformer into wall outlet.
2.Turn on power switch. (See diagram, p. 10.)
3.Let warm-up for 1-1/2 to 2 hours
4.Put meter scale selector switch between "HIGH" and "LOW" pointing to the word "LAMP". ksee diagram, p. 10 ).
5.Turn on light switch after initial warm-up period. Let it warm up for an additional 1/2 hour.
6.Check lamp voltage (located in middle right area of indicating meter) to see if it reads 9. 2.
Standardization
1.Switch meter scale selector switch to "HIGH".
2.Clean vitrolite tiles with alcohol and Kim-wipe.
3.Place matched white vitrolite standard tiles in the reference and sample port holders on hight hand side. Put Vitrolite A in front port and Vitrolite B in back port.
4.Set selector dial on Y. To move selector dial, pull dial straight out, turn to proper filter selection position and release. With microdial on 100. 00%, the needle on the indicating meter should read 100.
5.If the needle does not indicate 100, adjust the rear split zero adjust screw. Remove the small cap to make the screw visible.
6.After this adjustment, set the microdial at 92. 00%. The needle should go to the place in the upper right wherellcal 92. Oll arrow is located. If it does not, adjust the sensitivity adjustment control on the left side of meter scale selector switch.
7.Turn meter scale selector switch to "LOW". Set microdial on 100. 00% with the selector dial still on Y. The needle should read 100. If this is not correct, adjust the rear split zero adjust screw. Now turn the microdial to 70. 00%. The needle should move to the arrow in the lower right of the indicating meter scale that reads "cal 70. 011. If this is not correct, adjust as above. The sensitivity adjustment control for this adjustment is on the right side of the meter scale selector switch.
8.Turn the meter scale selector switch back to "HIGH" and the microdial back to 100. 00%. Move the selector dial to each of the other filter settings X, Z, XI to see if they read 100 on the indicatinwneter. If any of these filter settings do not read100, use the Handi-hex Key- to adjust the screw in the hole directly oppositeeach of the settings on the selector dial, excluding Y. Adjust only the zeroof the filter on which the selector dial is setting. Before any sample readingsare done, be sure all settings read 100 on the meter when the microdial is set on 100. 00%.
9. The zero readings need not be checked again until the next day. Color Measurment
1.Prepare sample. Depending on physical form of the substance, place in a curvette or wrap with transparent material. Eliminate air bubbles.
2.Set microdial on 100. 00%.
3.Opaque Sample (Reflectance). Remove standard from the port,labeled "sample". Insert test sample, and press holder against it.
OR
Non-opaque Sample (Transmission). Release transmission slide by pushing down on metal lever on backside of instrument, directly behind transmission slide. Place sample and standard over transmission ports in transmission slide: sample against rear port and standard against front port. Push in transmission slide.
4.With the selector dial set on X, move the microdial until the needle on the indicati1v meter is at 100. Record the microdial reading. Move the selector dial to each of the other filters Y, Z, XI respectively. Repeat as for X.
5.When taking readings, move needle from left to right on indicating meter. If all readings start on right except XI, move the needle to left past 100, then back to the right until it rests on 100.
6.Always take readings in X, Y, Z, XI order. Record results on suitable forms on which columns for X, Y, Z, XI have the same order.
7. When finished taking readings, return all dials to the off position. Unplug cord.
CIE and Other Conversions
1.Use the following formulas to convert Color Eye readings (ce) to CIE notation (cie). Xcie=Xce (0. 6333) + X'ce (0. 1711)
Ycie=Yce (0. 8560)
Zcie=Zce (1 - 0109)
Coordinate x= Xcie
Xcie + Ycie + Zcie
Coordinate y= Y cie
Xcie + y cie + Zcie
Yellow Index= Xcie - Zcie
Ycie
Lightness=Y 1/2
