Proposal Writing to Top

So you finally have an idea that you feel is researchable. The next step is to write a proposal for your mentor or boss and those you are requesting funding from. This is not a trieval process. It is the process which permits you to crystallize your thoughts. Certainly, the readers of your proposal will be able to use it to assist in enhancing the concepts. Remember, you do not need to have an expert on your problem read your proposal. If an intelligent nonprofessional can understand the problem and the product, others should be able to as well.

If you are in real need with writing the English language for the proposal or final product, at Oregon State one should contact the Writing Center. They will furnish help or direct you to a consultant. Certainly, if you are working at an other institution or organization, there should be help within the community.

Each organization has its own proposal format. It is critical to very aware of the organization you are writing propls for.The Federal and State governments generally have on-line guidelines for the proposals. For example, a review of the USDA grant guidelines, indicates that there are many on-line forms. It is critical to always follow the guidelines and forms for each approval or funding agency. It is also critical, when applying a proposal to not only check with the funding agency but also with your parent organization. Oregon State University has a number of guidelines, including human subjects.

One method I have observed to facilitate proposals is to be very straight forward. Get a balance between showing the technical expertise you have and omitting the jargon that makes your proposal obtuse. AGAIN, it is critical to follow the guidelines for the organization you are writing the proposals for. One proposal for all organizations, agencies and companies will not lead to success.

This webber has mixed feelings about proposal writing services. However, there are a number of organizations which can help. As a graduate student, it is important to gain experience and so minimize their use. Realism is that we can not be everything and once in the professional world, one might be more productive to do your expertise and hire those that are expert in needed areas.
