Authority And Those In Charge to Top

Early after entering the Nutrition and Food Management graduate program, each student must become appointed with all graduate faculty. This will give each student an opportunity to become fully aware of all the interests of faculty within the Department. From this, investigation of the web pages, and seminar discussions faculty interests will become obvious. You will initiate further discussions with potential faculty mentors. Once you and a faculty mentor have agreed on a mutal interest you discuss with the approving authority and are assigned to this person. Generally, the wishes of both the graduate student and faculty member are approved and your graduate program is underway. However, there are a number of glitches in undertaking your research wishes. Sometimes, a faculty mentor will be unable to accept more graduate students. Occasionally, even if the mentor agrees to one more, the incongruency between the faculty member and their job description may mean that the approving authority will not permit the assignment. At other times, the faculty member themselves may indicate to the student that, although the topic is of interest, they are unable or not interested in pursuing that aspect of research. At this time the student should discuss whether they should pursue further adaptation of their topic or pursue other avenues of research.

At Oregon State University, there is a large Community of Scientists who would mentor students.
