What is the history of naming of apricots?
The name "apricot" comes from a Latin word praecoquum meaning early ripe because the tree blooms so early in the spring. Earlier forms of the name showed a "b" instead of "p", that is abrecock but there may have been alteration because of the Latin apricus or sunny. The Spanish word is albaricoque; Italian alberocco; Arbian albarquq; late Greek praekokion.
