is a famous cook who was the author of one of the oldest books on cookery. Guillaume Tisel, called Taillevent, was born in 1326. From 1346 to 1350 he was head cook to Philippe VI de Valois. From 1355 to 1368 he was head cook and master of the kitchen to the Dauphin, the Duke of Normandy, and from 1368 to 1371 head cook to Charles VI: 'premier ecuyer de cuisine et maistre des garnisons de cuisine de France' (head cook and master of the garrisons of France). Taillevent died in 1395 and it would seem that he wrote his Viandler between 1373 and 1380.
