is one of the most highly praised wines of antiquity, classical prose and verse ring with hearty Roman applause for this famous wine grown near Falerno in the shadow of Mount Vesuvisus. Both red and white wines are still being made from the grapes of those identical vineyards, but today they are held in low opinion. It is not known whether the wine has deteriorated through the years or if the tastes of the ancients differed from those of modern connoisseur.
