stands for tea bowls, sake saucers, displays for the tokonoma, and so forth. They may be of plain wood, lacquered, or of ceramic as is appropriate for the character of the particular presentation. Dai for tea bowls are shaped like a saucer sitting on a pedestal. The tea bowl rests on an attached cup-shaped stand on top of the saucer.
