is a purified wax obtained from the honeycomb of the bee, being insoluble in water and sparingly insoluble in cold alcohol. It is used to glaze candy and is used in chewing gum, confections, and as a flavoring agent.

From the honeycomb of the bee. Used as a candy glaze and polish. Yellowish, soft to brittle, with a honey-like odor. Practically insoluble in water, it is used also in the manufacture of wax paper, candles, artificial fruit, and shoe polish. Formerly employed in the treatment of diarrhea, it has been utilized as a repository for slow-release medicines. Non-toxic. GRAS ACCEPTABLE
