Hensolt, Edith A. 1966. How Oregon Indians Used the Native Flora. Benton cdounty Historical Society & Museum, Philomath, Oregon.
Indians camped in the mountains to gather and prepare the leaves. They were an article of extensive commerce. The Indians made hats, pouches, baskets, cups, water-tight cooking pots of it. Strands of grass, dyed different colors, were woven into a great variety of figures. The roots, boiled in water, made a good soap substitute.
