What is the standard way of finishing a Sacher torte, and do you have a formula for the batter? A.K., Bellevue, Wash. to Top

The Sacher torte is a fine torte made with egg yolk, butter, sugar, chocolate and flour. The cake contains at least one part chocolate, one part whole egg and one part butter per one part flour. The batter can, therefore, be categorized as especially heavy.

After baking the cake, apply red currant jelly, a wine jelly or hot apricot jam to each layer of cake. Then, put the layers together, and coat the torte with ganache (a coating made with hot whipping cream and finely chopped chocolate.)
