Cultural and Historical Aspects of Foods
Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

A SYMPOSIUM APRIL 9, 10, 11, 1999

Oregon State University is sponsoring a Symposium in April 9, 10, 11, 1999, to bring together many disciplines and professionals to review current research, status, and papers on Cultural and Historical Aspects of Foods. The purpose of the symposium is to discuss the historical and cultural aspects of food populations, their considerations and implications for food consumption of ethnic groups internal and external to the U.S. and on information and knowledge which will assist the import and export of foods by the Food Industry.

Papers, posters, and panel discussions are requested on food history, food cultural practices, food functional properties, food product development, import and export practices and requirements and the impact of production, culture, market place and development.

The deadline for abstracts of papers, posters, and suggestions for panels is October 31, 1998. Receipt will be acknowledged. Acceptance will be notified by November 15, 1998. All abstracts abstracted for publication will be available at both the symposium and on the World Wide Web (http://food.oregonstate.edu/kelsey/index.html). Papers for abstracts selected will be due by March 30, 1999. Proceedings available through preordering by June 1, 1999.

Abstracts should be 300 or fewer words. It is preferred that abstracts be submitted on disk (TEXT/ASCII, Word Perfect 5.1 or 6.0, Microsoft Word 6.0) or by e-mail (no attached files) to food@ucs.orst.edu. If you are unable to submit by e-mail or disk, prepare your submission on 8.5 by 11 inch white paper using one-inch margins. Use 10-size type and courier or geneva font. Single space all copy, including title. Be sure all submissions have author(s) name(s), affiliation, electronic address [if available], postal addresses, telephone number, FAX number on disk or on paper. If you wish images included on the web with your abstract, submit as gif or jpeg files. At the bottom of disk label and/or abstract submission indicate where submitted as : paper, poster, panel. Accepted papers will be due March 30, 1999.

The Symposium will be on the Oregon State University campus. Information regarding housing, transportation and further symposium details will be available April, 1998.
